Celebrating 50 Years of Capitals Hockey – One Name at a Time
This season marks an incredible milestone for the Washington Capitals – 50 years of unforgettable goals, thrilling comebacks, and pure hockey heart. To commemorate this golden anniversary, I’m beyond excited to release a brand-new piece of word art dedicated to every player who’s ever pulled on a Caps jersey.
Handwritten with love, sweat, and a serious amount of ink, this artwork includes all 614 Capitals players from the 1974-75 inaugural season through the 2024-25 roster. Every name is written in chronological order based on their first year with the team – from the early days of Yvon Labre and Mike Gartner to today’s stars lighting up the ice.
This piece was specially created to celebrate the Capitals’ 50th anniversary and will be gifted to fans in attendance at Fan Appreciation Night at Capital One Arena. It's more than a tribute – it’s a time capsule of Capitals history that fans can explore together. Grab your family, your friends, your fellow diehards, and go on a hunt for your favorites.
Langway. Kolzig. Bondra. Backstrom. And of course, the one and only Ovechkin. They're all there – every player, every era, every memory.
Whether you’ve been a fan since day one or just joined the Red Rockers recently, this artwork is for you.
Interested in a print? Send an email to info@artofwords.com with the subject line "Caps 50th" and we'll let you know when the print is available for sale so you can bring a piece of Capitals history home!
